Job Description

Essential Job Functions

A Security Engineer must be perceptive and know what to protect. They must be able to understand how a threat might try to exploit vulnerabilities. Need to have some experience and knowledge with regards to NIST standards and/or HIPAA standards required.

Security Engineers must possess both technical skill and the ability to communicate security threats to non-technical stakeholders.  Skills should include experience with AWS and Azure security tools (McAfee, Cloud Posture Management, Halo, TrendMicro, Vulnerabilities scanning, Splunk, Security groups).  Experience should include also expertise in using the AWS Console, tools and processes for both Azure, AWS managed services and AWS Native environments.

Security Engineers must be able to work quickly and with attention to detail, making sure not to further compromise company systems.  Knowledge around how to secure cloud environments.

Implement automated systems that test for front- and back-end security vulnerabilities

Develop security best practices for cloud environments

Implement physical protection mechanisms such as ALBs, WAFs

Configure security monitoring tools for key systems

Review system and application logs, verifying completion of critical scanning and monitoring tools within the cloud.

Research issues regarding security tools implemented in the cloud

Submitting RFCs for AWS managed environments.

Technical Skill Set:

Data encryption and key management

Cloud-native and cloud authentication mechanisms

Cloud governance tools

Firewall tools

Networking hardware and software tools

Identity, security, and access management tools

Application security, data protection, and cryptography

Education

Cloud Security Engineer Professional Certificate

AWS Certified

3-5 years’  experience  working in a cloud environment

Four year college degree
