Your role in our mission
- Provide core technical expertise to support and manage Microsoft SQL Server in a highly challenging environment.
- Provide expertise in writing complex queries.
- Perform SQL performance tuning
- Design and create tables, views, triggers, partitions, complex stored procedures, functions, indexes and other database objects using SQL/T-SQL
- Analyze database and system response time and determine optimization and tuning recommendation to improve query performance.
- Review long running SQL's in production database and recommend for tuning.
- Work with application/development teams to assist in overall database design, helping developers tune queries, assigning proper indexes, and aiding developers in the creation of triggers and stored procedures.
- Analyze Microsoft SQL Server tables data volume and provide recommendation for indexes and triggers.
- Maximize database stability, up time of databases including Production, Test, Development environments through system monitoring, performance tuning, and routine maintenance tasks such as index rebuilds, file compression, statistical updates, and database consistency checks.
- Manage the storage environments for the databases, including optimal sizing, monitoring space, requesting additional storage, and providing growth statistics.
- Create and assign database roles and privileges.
- Create and execute database backup and recovery policies and maintain integrity and reliability of access to information.
- Import and export data to and from the database servers.
- Perform routine backup and recovery testing, including testing and documenting recovery scenarios.
- Conduct database performance monitoring and capacity planning.
- Monitor and analyze disk I/O, queue lengths.
- Conduct troubleshooting of issues associated with supported SQL databases.
- Perform SQL performance tuning tasks.
- Create and maintain detailed SOPs, configuration documentation, and maintenance plans for the database environment.
- Assist internal client teams with management of production server systems such as network security teams, cloud teams, system security officers.
- Serve as technical liaison between IT teams.
- Provide support of client site change control activities, supporting change control requests and review boards with respect to system implementation.
- Perform security hardening via group policies, local policies, scripting, etc.
- Distinguish between necessary security settings that would protect the system while ensuring usability versus security settings to meet security compliance.
- Understand and translate business needs into data models supporting long-term solutions.
- Work with the application development team to implement data strategies, build data flows and develop conceptual data models.
- Create logical and physical data models using best practices to ensure high data quality and reduced redundancy.
- Optimize and update logical and physical data models to support new and existing projects.
- Maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models along with corresponding metadata.
- Develop best practices for standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure consistency of data models.
- Evaluate data models and physical databases for variances and discrepancies.
What we're looking for
- 6+ years of applications and database development
- Extensive expertise in Microsoft SQL Server database, as well as data modeling, both logical and physical.
- SQL knowledge (query performance tuning, index maintenance, etc.) as well as an understanding of database structure.
- Extensive knowledge in Data De-identification and Test data preparation.
- Extensive experience with collecting business requirements from customers and transform the requirements into DB data processes and data schema.
Recommended Additional Skills/Experience
• Minimum of Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Healthcare EDI standards such as 835s.
• Knowledge of SSIS and SSRS
• Experience with job scheduling tools.
• Experience with a health insurance company, TPA, or claim processor and a thorough understanding on the underlying structure of claims transactions.
• Role is not a standard SQL Server DBA, but rather a DBA/SQL Developer that has application performance experience. This is a must have.
