Your role in our mission

The certified coder will serve as the primary resource for medical coding. The coder will advise the State on coding issues, provide in-depth research on new or unusual procedures, and make recommendations when appropriate. This individual will be assigned the following duties:

  • Serves as primary resource for medical coding updates and information, ensures that interpretation of code lists and code updates follows State policy.
  • Reviews and researches billed unlisted procedure codes to determine if a more specific code exists, supports the transaction department by working edit reports as assigned.
  • Supplies Provider Services with coding issues and updates to be shared with providers to provide timely and accurate claim payment, maintains library of code books and relevant resources that are available to personnel as necessary.  Serves as resource for State staff and co-workers on questions related to coding
  • Analyzes data requirements and documents according to required standards by utilizing prescribed tools and methods to ensure that design and implementation are according to company guidelines and client specifications.
  • Applies data analysis or data modeling techniques to establish, modify or maintain data structures and their associated components to increase efficiency of structures and components.
  • Communicates with clients about data related discrepancies and other matters of significance to ascertain information and correct errors.

 

What we're looking for

  • Academy of Professional Coders (CPC) certification preferred and Registered Nurse experience helpful but not required (direct experience as a coder can be substituted if experience can be demonstrated to be equivalent)
  • Two or more years’ experience with updating code sets and implementing changes to Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and/or Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS)
  • Experience with ICD CM and PCS would be very beneficial for a certified coder

  • Onsite position in Quakerbridge Road, Hamilton New Jersey
  • Video cameras must be used during all interviews, as well as during the initial week of orientation.

The pay range for this position is $59,500.00 - $85,000.00 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
